Can I still apply to become a recruiter if I don’t live in Japan?
Generally speaking, yes. I landed my first recruitment job while I was living in the U.S. and never even visited their Tokyo office before I agreed to join. That said, some recruitment firms only hire those who already have a visa, so you’ll need to check with individual firms.
I hear bad things about recruitment. Should I even bother applying?
There are literally thousands of recruitment firms in Japan and some of them are certainly bad apples. It’s a matter of vetting each company by asking probing questions, as well as understanding your own motivators and what culture you’d fit in. I get into this in detail in the eBook.
