While we cannot predict every question that Amazon will ask in an interview, the process is fairly structured.

This makes the interview process transparent and easy to prepare for because we know many of the themes they will cover and questions they will ask. Imagine if your teacher in university told you most of the questions that were going to be on the test beforehand – all you would have to do is practice.

Consider this book your study guide.

As a result of this structured interview process, many job seekers who do poorly in interviews simply do not spend enough time preparing. And often, the ones who do spend time preparing do not spend enough time focusing on the right things. I compiled information about the Company’s interview process, questions, and techniques that have been most successful for former applicants (current Amazon employees). This mini-guide will walk you through what it takes to get through an Amazon interview, step by step. All you have to do is read and prepare.

What Readers Are saying

Working as a recruiter, I've dug into multiple books on interviewing techniques so I can provide worthwhile advice to my clients. The STAR Interview paints a far clearer picture in the head of the reader of how to properly sell yourself in a job interview, and comes with very concrete examples and pieces of actionable advice. It's very thorough and doesn't leave you with any "but what about...?" 's. Definitely recommended reading for anyone going into an important job interview.

Joseph Lofgren

I highly recommend reading this book from start to finish. Out of all the writings I've ever come across regarding the STAR interviewing method, this has been the most comprehensive. It encourages readers to actively participate through self-reflection while providing a ready to go template with relatable examples. What I loved the most was one of the last sections that encouraged self-care. So besides gaining a more comprehensive understanding about how to approach interviewing, I got some life tips!

FAQ

Can I still apply to become a recruiter if I don’t live in Japan?

Generally speaking, yes. I landed my first recruitment job while I was living in the U.S. and never even visited their Tokyo office before I agreed to join. That said, some recruitment firms only hire those who already have a visa, so you’ll need to check with individual firms.

I hear bad things about recruitment. Should I even bother applying?

There are literally thousands of recruitment firms in Japan and some of them are certainly bad apples. It’s a matter of vetting each company by asking probing questions, as well as understanding your own motivators and what culture you’d fit in.  I get into this in detail in the eBook.
